In 1874 Ulysses S. Grant, President of the
United States of America deeded a plot of land to J.M. Pomeroy to erect a
building for use for a public school. In 1878 Pomeroy's first
school was built to house 70 students.
Down through the years this old schoolhouse
was never deserted nor allowed to remain in disuse for any long period of
time. Its location and also its sturdiness seemed to attract
people. Many people lived in it, adding their touch to improve
it in some way, enlarge it here, finish it there and give it an
attractive, home-like appearance.
In 1965, the schoolhouse was completely redone
by Mr. and Mrs. Emory Dye. They added on to the house and redesigned
it to appear in a Cape Cod style. Shutters were added as well as two
large dormers on the front roof.
This
home also features a pillared patio area in the rear of the house.
It has beautiful woodwork, an open staircase and an ornate
fireplace. The house is now owned by Jack Cash.
